Advent Worship

Category:Events Tags :

Emmanuel

The Christmas Season has been coined the “cycle of light.”  Into a world of darkness came the Word made flesh, the true light, Jesus Christ. The time of Advent is the time we set aside in our church year to prepare for the coming of the Light.  Advent has a threefold meaning: 1) the coming of our Lord in the flesh at Christmas, 2) the coming of the Lord in his Word, and 3) the coming of our Lord in glory at the end of time.  Advent is a season of repentance along with joyful anticipation.

Christmas centers of the miracle of our God born to save us.  As this celebration approaches, take time to meditate on the preparations to be made in your own heart. Join us for worship in December as we plead Oh, Come, Oh, Come, Emmanuel.

Sunday morning services begin at 9:30am. These services will begin with a gathering rite built off of the words and music of Oh, Come, Oh, Come Emmanuel.

Midweek meditative devotional services will be held at 6:30pm on Wednesday, December 4th, 11th, & 18th.

The service on the 18th will serve as the culmination of our midweek Advent preparation.  This service will follow a different format.  Families are encouraged to bring a tabletop advent wreath from home, and each member of the family can participate as we light the candles on the wreath as part of the service. Following this service we will have a time of fellowship.  Each family is encouraged to bring 1-2 dozen of their favorite Christmas cookie to share.

Seeking a Promise for the End of the World

Category:Events Tags :

Seeking a Promise

What would you do if you knew the world was going to end?  Spend all your money?  Go on every vacation you ever wanted?  Mope in abysmal destitution? Find a friend?

God’s Word clearly states that the world as we know it will one day come to an abrupt end.  No one knows the day or the hour save God himself.  It will be a day of acknowledgement.  It will be a day of destruction.  It will be a day of judgement.

Such a day would seem to strike terror into human hearts.  Yet, just as surely as God promises that day will arrive, he also promises his people joy, peace, salvation, and victory on that very day.

Join Beautiful Savior for worship in November as we seek those very promises from God; promises for the end of the world.

Need More Faith?

Category:Newsletter Tags :

Do you?  Would you make that statement your own: “I need more faith.”  What if we changed it a bit?  “I need something I can believe in.” “I need something that won’t disappoint me.” “I need something in which I can place my trust, my confidence, and my faith.” Do the statements resonate more then?

Those things can be hard to find.  How many of us are rapidly losing faith in our elected officials as the government has come to a screeching halt? How many have lost faith in our judicial system over the years?  Have you ever lost faith in a business partner, colleague, or even a member of your own family? Faith can certainly be hard to come by, and we haven’t even talked about that idea of faith in religion, in church, or faith in Jesus.

So what about that kind of faith?  Even the Bible’s description of faith is a little hard to swallow: “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1) I’m supposed to be sure about a hope?  I’m supposed to be certain about something I can’t see?  That sounds like a daunting task, but this faith is built on a solid foundation.  Just about every time the Beautiful Savior family gathers for worship, we join together to state our faith.  We usually use Creeds – “I believe…” statements. The key truths of the Christian faith are very briefly and yet adequately summarized in those statements. The foundation of this faith is Jesus and what he has done for us. That’s the important aspect about faith: knowing the truth about the true God and the Savior he has given us. Here is part of one of those statements:

I believe in Jesus Christ, [God’s] only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell.  The third day he rose again from the dead.  He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.  From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

Yes, it’s a lot to believe, but there is a huge comfort about this faith.  You don’t have to come up with it all on your own.  It’s a gift from God: “For it is by grace you have been saved through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” (Ephesians 2:8) Sometimes you might have a problem with the strength of your faith.  Sometimes you might struggle.  We’ve lost faith in so many things, how can we keep faith in Jesus? Then, it’s important to make the request that a greatly distressed father made to Jesus with regard to his son’s great need and his own weakness of faith: “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24 – Read the whole story.)

The most important thing to remember about faith is that it derives all of its strength from that rock-solid foundation.  A famous preacher once said, “It is not your hold on Christ that saves you; it is Christ. It is not your joy in Christ that saves you; it is Christ. It is not even your faith in Christ that saves you, though that be the instrument. It is Christ’s blood and merit.”

Are you looking for something you can really have faith in?  Have faith in Jesus, who loves you, who has saved you, who will never let you go.

Jesus, Friend of Sinners Series

Category:Events Tags :

Jesus, Friend of Sinners

Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.”  Each of us is ridden with the disease of sin and we need so much more than a doctor.  Jesus does not shy away from us.  He is not repulsed by the blackness of death that grips us.  He does not turn away, but instead draws near to us.  He searches us out.  He became our Savior and even our friend.

Join us as we witness Jesus’ own interaction with men and women just like us; sinners in whose lives and struggles we see our own, and through whose stories we also see that Jesus is indeed the friend of sinners.

Beautiful Savior Worship – September 15th through October 6th, 2013.

Our Footprints Follow Jesus Series

Category:Events Tags :

Follow JesusHave you read the poem, “Footprints in the Sand”? Many dearly love it.  It reminds us when our life is difficult and strenuous is often when Jesus picks us up and carries us through.  Our thanks to our Savior for the support, strength, and comfort he continuously provides in his Word overflows when we recognize just how much he has been there for us.

What about when he puts us back down?  What about when we are walking on our own, and have our own set of footprints in the sand? How should we live our lives then?  In the month of July this will be the focus of our worship services.  How do followers of Christ live?  Our worship will focus on scripture readings that provide guidance for our lives.  Join us as we discuss how “Our Footprints Follow Jesus.”

Catch the Wave Series

Category:Events Tags :

catchthewave_200Jesus made a promise when he ascended into heaven.  His church would grow as his followers were witnesses to all the ends of the earth. Jesus’ Church continues to grow by leaps and bounds. While we in America are often distracted by the pursuit of “the good life”, huge portions of the world are hungry for the gospel of Jesus and finding it via technology and the world-wide internet.

Some have described this surge in the growth of the church as a tsunami—only one that brings heaven instead of hell.

These are exciting times for mission work all over the world and there are so many ways that we can “get in” on what’s happening. Every Christian needs to find a way to catch the wave and take advantage of the opportunities out there to bring Jesus to people who are hungry and thirsty for Him.

Get ready to be awed and inspired in this series as we talk about what’s exciting in the Church around the world and share opportunities for all God’s people to “catch the wave.”

Join us for this worship series from Sunday May 12 through Sunday June 2.

I need more…Good News

Category:Newsletter Tags :

We live in frazzled and frustrated times. Turn on the nightly news. So frequently we are given reports of events that have devastated property and lives, are told about individuals that have deviated from law and order, and hear of stories that dampen our spirits. On a regular basis, most of the news is not good news, and a depressed sigh first finds solace in the silence of a turned-off television.

Turns out, though, that we don’t have to turn on a TV to know that. We don’t even need to be near it. As our consciences rerun the past, we see where our own deviations have had a devastating impact and, as a direct result, our spirits are dampened and depressed. That’s the “news” we know by nature. That’s God’s Law on sinful hearts, and that’s why stricken hearts crave more good news.

The calm to the craving is not attained by turning off; we get it by tuning in. The answer is not in blocking out God’s Word or dulling our consciences by making excuses. The solution is found in what God’s good news says to every individual—even to you and to me. The calm, the promise, the solution is the message of the gospel! Hearts are calmed at the message of Christ for us! It’s in that message the Apostle Paul, a very real sinner, would have sinners take comfort and confidence. He lifts our eyes and our hearts to the grace of the cross: “Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst” (1 Timothy 1:16).

Craving more good news? Forgiven sinner, tune in to the Savior who carried your every sin! See him in his Word! Tune in to the gospel—God’s good news that quiets sin’s accusations! Hear that saving message! Beloved child of God, tune in to the trustworthy message of the Bible and let your heart sigh with thanksgiving. Jesus came to save sinners. Jesus came to save you! That’s the good news! Crave it. Enjoy it.  And stay tuned in!

Stay tuned in by joining Beautiful Savior for worship.
