March 1st, 2017 – 6:30pm
Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent. On this day we are reminded that we are dust and to dust we shall return. Yet, Jesus promises us new life in him.
Ash Wednesday has traditionally been observed as a day of personal reflection and confession before God. We bare our soul open to him and confess our sins, and he is faithful and forgives us for the sake of Jesus.
A Note about Ashes
The Imposition of Ashes will be offered in Beautiful Savior’s service. The Imposition of Ashes has been a tradition of the Christian Church throughout history. Ashes are a sign of mourning in many cultures. On Ash Wednesday we mourn that our sins caused the death of our Lord. For many, receiving ashes, either on the forehead or on their hand, serves as a reminder to them of the love of Jesus that led him to pour out his blood to rescue them from their sins.
Beautiful Savior offers the Imposition of Ashes for those who find this tradition beneficial for the focus of their meditation and worship. Those who do not desire the ashes are encouraged to use this portion of our service for personal reflection.
